Turkey Vultures

The turkey vulture looks obnoxious and scary ,but actually is a very successful raptor.
In fact, I actually look forward to his arrival each spring.
A migratory bird, who goes south only when they know winter is definitely approaching. They do not return till the cold is going to stay gone. That is why, I trust them to let me know spring has arrived!





This interesting bird does not kill for food. He only feeds that which has been recently killed by another. In my area, it seems to be by automobiles or misfortune to the animal. They do not carry disease or bacteria because of their strong stomach acid. Cleaning our landscape is their forte.
The nearing of the scary holiday of tricksters, I came to ponder about this bird once again. Mostly because, the last couple of days, they have been missing.... I believe they have headed South....For my skies, do not have any of these beautiful soaring birds about.
Today i decided to learn more about them and happened upon the website.. Vulturesociety.homestead.com
They have great facts on this protected bird.

Completed Project

Yah, I am finished and in time! Auction is this Wednesday at "Eyes Open Iowa,"!
Now to get it off in the mail...

The Center for Health Statistics at the Iowa Department of Human Services has released 2009 data on teen births in the state of Iowa. In 2009, there were 3448 births to teen mothers. EyesOpenIowa would like you to join us for an Open House on Wednesday, October 31st from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

We have moved to a new location in West Des Moines - 4000 Westown Parkway, Suite 204 and would like to give you a tour. (We are housed in the Independent Insurance Agents Building). We'll have snacks and give-aways and you'll have a chance to visit with our staff and hear about what we have to offer.

National “Let’s Talk Month” 2012

It’s October and National “Let’s Talk Month”. This is an opportunity to focus on the importance of family communication about sexuality.

We know that parents/caregivers are still the most important sex educators of their children, so this month we encourage planning activities that will help parents/caregivers feel better prepared and effective in communicating with their children.

EyesOpenIowa also has a resource library of dvd’s, books, pamphlets, curriculum and other materials available to assist educators in communicating with parents and their children. Click here for more information.

Crazy quilt purse...

Progress is being made after taking Time with visits from my sweet family.
My deadline is fast approaching as Kristin says, it is needed by Oct 31st.
Oh my, anyway I do believe, I will have to stop now on the embroidering. Time to start constructing it into the purse it will become...
Thanks Barb for the offer of pressing wish you could just do that. I have finger pressed and hope it will look even better after timtex interfacing.
So... Tomorrow on with the construction.

Beautiful October Day

How can you not smile for this gorgeous sunny day.
A weekend of family visitors which does a heart wonders...
Plus two of my kids along with a longtime friend of the family, ran the half marathon in Des Moines. They jogged around waterworks park and Grays Lake. They couldn't of asked for a more perfect day! I was unable to attend, of course,but my other daughter Kristin and granddaughter were cheering them on.
Safe travels home kids... And see you at Sunday family dinner.

Stitches Begun

The Evening purse to be created for my daughter's fundraiser....
I had gathered fabrics before this month then actually did complete piecing together the morning of my surgery. I thought I pressed it well...
Now Smoothing it out and studying where stitches needs will be, I hear Martha Green's words in my head. You must press the "heck out of it". Needless to say, i find after doing some finishing up of applying fabric it looks a bit wrinkly.
I will post my progress and see how that turns out as to get to an iron and machine involves stairs, unless I can beg someone to iron for me.
It brings to mind, one of a dear Crazy Quilters at last summer retreat. She had quite the setup around her chair. Her sewing machine, ironing board, threads and ribbons,and books so wonderfully organized around her project. I should of thought of that!
Now I have a deadline and will carry on with my organization. I 'll let you know how that goes...
But I will truly appreciate any tips to helping me meet my goal.

Passage of Time

Time has passed so quickly with a busy summer of family time and work...
I find I have neglected my blog much with this passage of time...
I pass by this "Sticks" artwork everyday, when going to work and have always loved the message!
Once again find myself recuperating from another foot surgery. This brings me with the time passage in a slower mode. I have planned to get caught up on some of the sitting down projects during this time. Here's the joy in being confined to one leg usage. It is an adjustment and I so admire those wonderful people whom deal with this for a lifetime as our Olympian runner. And veterans . It's amazing what we take for granted.
Just thought I would tap into my blog once again and plan to see you again soon.
