The Pine Tree Story

The year we built our cabin dream was the summer I planted a baby pine tree.
It was to signify the beginning of our life in the woods. We had much discussion on where would be the best placement. The building was still being completed and the land was still raw with construction. That little tree took hold and these past 61/2 years has thrived and grew so very tall. It has house birds and feeders and brought joy out my dining room window each morning.
But today, it is beginning a new life at the other side of the cabin. Why... Because we are ready to add that garage we had always wanted when we begun the cabin.
But wouldn't it be great to attach it to the cabin with a little three season room or (breezeway)! So lovely pine tree had grown so very much it was a bit too close for the placement of this new construction.
Tonight the pine tree has a new home and my wishes is for this lovely pine to once again take hold and continue to bring joy and life to our cabin.

Busy Busy Bee

Been a bit busy with all that spring brings to the season. Sunny days of gardening, weeding and usual housework in between my work schedule. In fact, I do believe I have worn out the animals around my place. This is Gracie, the Chocolate Lab ( new resident member). I started bringing the deck chairs out...here came Gracie... after she took a swim in the pond to cool off... she headed straight for my chair. I must remember to check for the wet seat, before I break to read!
Hot Dog Todd followed me back and forth in the yard and looks to be that she is tired as well.
Tomorrow, I am off to my hospital work schedule. Animal friends you can rest up till, I return.
This busy bee needs to hit the hay!

Remembering Mothers

Mothering the gifts from God which lead you into motherhood. They give me joy and happiness. Without them I would not of grown into the person I am today.

Thank you my children for becoming loving beautiful adults.

This brought memories of other mothers whom touch my life. The above picture is my great grandmother, Ella, grandmother, Oda Alice along with my mother, Ava.
A day shared with them all along with Papa Roy and my Dad.
Also my brother (whom just had a birthday this week), my sisters enjoying time at our grandparents home in Clarkdale. Where delicious food and homemade bread was always found to fill our tummies. Much Laughter shared on the backporch, where we always heard fun stories and hugs.
This was a treasured picture for sure, as I am holding my first child, Kristin whom is enjoying time with four generations of mothers!

Thanks you mother for the love you shared and memories of all those moments of joy and laughter.

Joy in the Morning

Little Blue Heron

This beautiful sunny but cool morning, DH and I walked back to our pond. We startle this beautiful bird by the edge searching for a bit of breakfast. He flew up to the dam and looked at us... then became nervous of the dogs and landed higher into a tree. I had never seen this type of bird before... In fact, I needed to hurry and look up what it might be. It is a southern fresh water habitat fowl. I read it can be as far north as Missouri. So guess, he decided to crossed the border and come to visit. He was very interesting and hope to see more of him. We have also had our first sightings of those wonderful hummingbirds. They have returned to Iowa. It must be summer soon.

Our this morning, our goal was to plant a willow tree by the pond. I have always loved the beauty of the willow brushing the waters edge. In the past I have planted a willow on 4 different years without any luck of a surviving tree. I am hopeful this will be the year.

I purchased a Wisconsin willow and it is much bigger then the others I have tried.

The dogs always need to help and hopefully leave it be, to grow beautifully into a tall weeping tree.

Wish blessings to the willow on rapid growth and joy of seeing more of my little blue heron.

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand

Author- Helen Simonson May's read for the OMBC is this debut book. The author stated, I want to write a book she would enjoy reading. Born in England, but now resides in United States. It is a love story based in England of two widowers, who shared many common interests. Finding themselves with different backgrounds and families leads them trying to walk a life without the interference of those families and community. It is a delightful read and if you like English wit...and excellent prose you will enjoy this author's journey into their lives.
We will be meeting at Linda Couchman's as this is her chosen book. She has lovely gardens as the English in this story. She is our own author. She has published a children's book on the Seaman's Journey story of Lewis and Clark. She writes a weekly column in our local newspaper on gardening with her own style of wit. A teacher for over 25 years she has much love of a good story and favors English history and gardens stories the best.
I am looking forward to going to Linda's and discussing this book along with our club's delicious food.
During the evening, I will unveil my choice for the month of June.... Much thought and decision making on my choice was nervously done. I had been planning another favorite book, but was afraid it might be too much reading for this busy time of year. I also chose a debut novel which I have not read so...
Fingers crossed and hopeful it will be well liked!

May Day- Happy Lei Day

May Day a time to celebrate spring. To enjoy the beauty of flowers that can be made into Lei...
Beginning 1928 our state of Hawaii decided to call May Day, Lei Day.
Everyone will wear flower leis. They celebrate the fine art of creating these wonderful circle of flowers. In fact many displays can be found and demostration on this day. I can just picture the many beautiful flowers. The plumerias ,the orchids, ginger,...
My sisters were in Elementary, when we resided on the island of Oahu. They looked forward to this day. The above photo is my sister Beverly. Doesn't she look excited by the friendly wave?
Notice how we had to where flip flops? A sock called a tubbie was wore with those shoes. It had a separation for the great toe. You slipped they on your feet then use the hook and eyes at the heel to keep them on. They had canvas soles and cotton tops. I think it actually, was a Japanese traditional sock. I wore them, but never a favorite. I was much more comfortable going barefoot it in those flip flops.
I was wondering if the bee sisters can still smell and see the beautiful flowers?! They will be returning later this month. I wondering if they will take a moment to find a lei to wear on their adventures.
