Joy of fall sunshine

Joella and friend Allison enjoying a wonderful sunny fall day. Joella is sharing it with her friend from Junior High. They seem to be finding joy exploring the woods and getting quite a ride on Thumper and Spot. Hope you don't mind Maddy. Spot is Maddy's favorite horse. Needless to say, he needs much riding on the days you are unable to do it yourself.
You may notice Spot on the right and he is enjoying the ride as well...

Fall time

Milk pods... when they look like this,

it means fall has arrived.

But what a beautiful sunny day!

I enjoyed every minute of it!!!

It was a warm 80 degrees with a lovely breeze.

So hope, we have a few more in store before

the snow flakes come...

Fall also brings my Sister's Retreat.

The first weekend in Oct. Looking forward to that also!!

Time Passing

These caught my eye. They were tucked in each pew for guidance in singing at the Sharon Chapel.

One appears very much as in the age of the church and the other much more recent. Doesn't it speak volumes?

Time passes so quickly. Yet another summer is coming to a close as well. I have been enjoying the remains of sunny days. But i am feeling the need to get back to stitching. I have been working on moving my sewing room which requires several rooms to undergo a change as well. It seems to be moving slowly. Yesterday

I took my sewing machine to get tuned up for the fall sewing. I am going to have to kick it up a notch. I miss the time to create! Back to you, later after my weekend to work.

A Church Gone By...

Tonight was a auction of this little church. It's doors have been closed to the congregation since 2001. It can be found on a gravel road southeast of Centerville, Iowa.

The name is Sharon Chapel built 1890.

It also host a small cemetery in the backyard. Upon walking the grounds, it was noted many families of Appanoose county. The entrance stone stated, land donated by the McCoy family. The first row i found my ancestors of the late 1800s. It had several GAR stars at the graves , which means several patriots of the Civil War.

Three members remained in 2001. But one of those members was the minister! Wouldn't it of been a great day to see the curved pews filled with all the families who walked these lands.!!

Turkey babies

Looks like the turkey babies are becoming adults. They still hang with their mother.
Every morning, they work their way across the back of the yard looking for the many insects.. I believe they are drying their feathers, as they walk through the tall grass. This morn we counted 16 babies. I believe they must of adopted a another young one.
So glad they felt safe this am so we could enjoy the parade.

Fall Flowers

Rainy weather and approaching Fall season...
I love the changing of the seasons, but at the same time, i will miss the joys of the season left behind. Crisp fall weather has it joys but it also is the entrance for cold and freezing temperatures.
We have had so many rainy days this season. It has brought a beautiful growth of abundant yellows flowers everywhere. This is the first year i have seen them surround my pond. They can also be found along the roadside ditches. It has to be a gift from the many rains we have received! Hurricane is still pounding the gulf coast. Many of our U.S.C.G. are still hard at work.

Hurricanes

Hurricane Ike has the Coast Guard heading out to help out the East Coast.
My son is one of them has flew out today.
They are always ready to protect and rescue those in need on our coast land.
Katrina required many, many helicopters and flight teams.
My heart and prayers to the families of the flight crew at Hawaii. Four brave men went down with their helicopter. I join with all the Coast Guardsman's, who mourn and search for the the 4Th man.
My prayers are with you, flight crews everywhere.

Tea the favorite drink

My lastest Auction find!
The yellow is a Hall with gold leaves and acorns.
Tea has always been my main drink of choice.
Now there is many more choices then when i was a girl.
You find the organic variety, and the blended herbs. Celestial Seasonings, who have many flavors to choose with great quotes on the box.
Tea to some come with many rules.
The traditional method of making a cup of tea is to place loose tea leaves, using a tea infuser into a tea pot. then steep hot water over a few minutes.
Black tea should be added at the boiling point of about 100 degrees. It is recommended the teapot be warmed before preparing tea. Add boiling water to the pot and swirling briefly before discarding. Brew for 4 minutes. If you brew longer it will make the tea bitter.
Green teas should only be steeped 30 seconds or no longer then 3 minutes. also must be brewed at a lower temperature. When you boil the water you reduce the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water thus changing the taste.
The theory is, some teas, help us boost the immune system. Another plus, for my favorite drink.
So tonight, i will be steeping me a cup of Raspberry Zinger, Celestial Seasoning.
Loaded with hibiscus, rose hips, chicory, blackberry and raspberry leaves.
