My Sweet Auction Piece

This is one of my favorite pieces, I was able to obtain at this past Saturday's auction event. I do enjoy looking at the bead work and of the intricate work. Inside is a mirror for putting those last minute touches to lips before facing that special someone. Can you see a sweet girl excited about going to an event with this evening bag?
Inside is a label bearing TORII backside TOKYO. All sides of the purse is beaded and in mint condition. Anyone any idea on how to date this gem?....
It was fun to bring home and wonder as it sits on my table.
Yesterday, brought more rain, but in the afternoon, my friend Brenda B. and I ventured to Pella to check out the tulips. They have a annual Tulip Festival coming soon and we wanted a head start on enjoying the many tulips throughout the town. We were sorry to see many of the tulips were already gone due to the heavy rains and others appeared to be in their peak. They may be gone before the festival. Weather is always a gamble isn't it? We did enjoyed seeing them through the raindrops and then had a delicious lunch at Smokey Row. We visited some of Brenda's favorite shops and finished with sacks of treats from Jaarsma Bakery and Ulrich Meat Shop.
Even a rainy day is much more enjoyable... when shared with a treasured friend.

Rain and More Rain

Day three of spring rain and the Chariton river banks are overflowing into the farms...
I am very thankful once again my home is on higher ground.
Some of the planting has been done, but you think the seeds have been washed out?
Jared and Chris are praying not!


The water is close to the main roads, but so far not over it.
The warmth of home and a comfy quilt brings joy to me on this rainy day of rest.
Yesterday, did find us once again at an auction. Some lovely fines were obtained and some visiting with close friends. My friend, Brenda was also on her walking cast enjoying the search for treasures. I know she, won the bid of a fine circa 1920 suitcase. Can't wait to see what she plans for it!
I found a sweet beaded bag and some vintage aprons, quilt tops, and an interesting globe of the moon. Will post photos hopefully, tomorrow.

The Winning Bid

Show and tell of that bid, we won this past Saturday Auction.. The stain glass that has been a search for us through quite a few summers. This was the time for us to purchase.

This beautiful glass's history is....

In the year, 1853 a Baptist Church begun in a the town of Chariton. Worship was in a small structure, but not to the year of 1893 was the church that housed this beautiful glass built. It lived in this structure till 1963. The family who owned it now bought it at that time, because it brought memories of their wedding in 1947.

My Dh has been busily working on the oak frame for support to stabilizing the 117 year old glass. As you can see, the frame completed and it's final resting place.

We both plan on enjoying the play of colors and reflection across our walls and floors.

So what will we search for next?!

Auction Season Time

The season is here... found a good one last Saturday at a nearby town. Good Auction seem to be getting scarce anymore. On this day it was filled with some of my favorite treasures and easily use up our Saturday waiting for those treasures to come up for bidding. As you can see I felt I hit the jackpot. DH has been searching for a stained glass window for quite some time and joyously one was here. The owners of the items, stated they had received the window from the Baptist church at Chariton when the new building was built many years ago. They felt they needed it, as it brought memories to them of being married there in 1947. Yes, we were the ones to win the bid!
It is missing a frame. In our wood shop my DH has been very busy this week. He is working on a oak frame to support and stabilized the beautiful window. We have hope of trying to place it in our cabin today. Hardly wait to see how the beautiful light reflects the colors!
I am also busily working on a project for a dear DIL birthday and maybe will add a bit of my new treasures to it....

Beautiful Warm Sunshine!

Coming out of a extremely long winter can bring such joy for blooming daffodils and grass growing between your feet. Found treasures to be seen as auction season begins.... and founding how the crabgrass just appeared in the flowers. But to sit with the comfort of grass and hear birds singing not near the chore. How do those roots grow so long...what are they reaching to obtain? Definitely not the take over of my garden!

The hummingbirds have been sighted in Iowa and as far North as the Great Lakes! My true sign of summertime! My feeders are out and I am now waiting for my first sighting!

Fill those feeders they will be very tired from that very long flight. The best mix I have found to use is:

1 part sugar to 4 parts of water

Boil 2 minutes and keep cover as not to evaporate

Cool then fill those feeders.

Do not need to add the additive of red food coloring

So help out those tired little bodies with some much needed "go power", so we can enjoy them for a bit!
