Remembering Loved Ones

Just back from a wonderful trip with my sisters on the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii.
Just in time to continue a tradition with my DH. It was a rainy day visiting all the cemeteries of the many family members who have past...
Our mothers tell of picnics, planned on this day. Many families could be seen around the cemetery decorating graves. They stated, it felt like family reunions.
I believe this day actually begun from the members of the GAR. Grand Army of Republic after the civil war. They wanted to remember all their fellow soldiers who gave their lives for they country. Now it is called Memorial Day. Thank you GAR members for helping us to continue to remember those who fought for our freedom!

PBR

Professional Bull Riders...
A favorite of my DH. We are excited to have the opportunity to see them at the arena in our area! We have become great followers. More DH then me, I can keep up with some of the stats but, he knows them all. Never misses it on TV if at all possible.
Tomorrow, I will get off early from work and we will meet at my MIL and FIL home. Planning to have a nice dinner before off to the arena.
Mother's Day for me will be spent working in the ER. Hope all the children will be sick and injury free! :}

Spring Time Joys

Yesterday morning yet another new foal was born. This makes two this past week. Such a joy to see the a new baby romping along the green grass around their mothers.

Sunday I had my first sighting of a hummingbird!!! My absolute sign of WARM weather is here. Jamie was sitting with a shirt that had a bit of red on it and that beautiful hummingbird came right up to her to say hello! I know they must be hungry from their long flight, so I filled and placed my feeders out for them to have a great meal.

But two days of looking in the timber no more mushrooms found... must be a shortage this year.

So having all these signs of Spring, we felt the garden must get in while the sun was shining. Monday gave way to many seeds planted and 30 tomato plants and a few other plants set out as well.

Clothes drying on the line... sheets smelling of fresh sunshine air in the breeze.

Grass and weeds pulling and hoeing of the flower beds and new mulch to place.

Great joys of a wonderful season change in the Midwest.

Morel Mushroom Time

So far we have only found 2 of those hiding mushrooms... but they were delicious in an omelet this morning.
Sun is shining and looks to be a very wonderful day. So more hope.
I've got to run and enjoy the day of Spring and Sun!!

May Day is Lei Day

May Day memories for me are going to school on the island of Oahu. It is a beautiful celebration of color and flowers, fragrance, laughter, and Aloha.
Watching my younger sisters in elementary school was especially entertaining.
If lei day landed on a school day, the whole day is delegated to celebrating this event. Dances, Hawaiian attire wore with many flowers that have been Hahu. {Meaning braided}
It was a celebration for the Queen long ago. 1929, it became an official holiday.
This year is the 82ND celebration.
The picture shows this year's competition. Hats and leis are made and put on display for judging.
My sister Beverly is packed and ready to fly to Maui in the am. I know she wished she could of been apart of seeing this event again.
She was a very good May Pole dancer and lei maker.
As well as sister Brenda.
Safe journey Beverly... enjoy the laughter and Alohas!!!
